Buenos dias, Viejo Vaquero
Your eyes hold the tears of your age
Can you tell the truth of this grand hacienda?
What is written on your faded old page?

Ola viejo cabbellero. Que tal?
What was the grulla stallion's name?
That you bucked out for the two silver dollars
Held tight between boot sole and stirrup
The one with the long flowing mane

Does your heart long for the feel of the ramal and the rawhide?
Does your back feel the sweat of the day?
Does your heart ache for your family so dear?
All who have now gone away

Kern River and Madera are calling
Back to the time of the dream
Back to the time of the hidalgos
Made rich by the rush of the stream

This land will never forget you
It owes you its life and its flower
When these days are gone and only memories linger on You gave us our finest hour

"Purt Near"
All My Favorites

Paint Horse owners are people of many talents, and Larry Maurice is no exception. When the California cowboy isn't riding, Legal Graffitti, his 5-year old Paint gelding, or leading a string of mules in the Sierra Nevada, he's reveling audiences with poetry and songs of the Old West.

In July, Larry's talent was recognized by the Academy of Western Artists, which named him "Male Cowboy Poet of the Year 2000." His latest CD, "Purt Near" All My Favorites, shows why.

Loaded with poetry by such notable cowboy writers as Gail Gardner and Bruce Kiskaddon and songs like "Red River Valley" and "You Are My Sunshine," the album spins the listener into the life of the working cowboy. The livestock, camps and cattle drives that are part and parcel of a cowboy's existence are a life that Larry has lived for the past 20 years.

Photographs of Legal Graffitti are also featured on the inside of and back of the CD's cover.

"From the neighing of a horse at the beginning of the CD, the magic of the words and music takes hold and resonates. Some stories are humorous; others are achingly poignant. Larry delivers them with all the fun and emotion that continues to draw listeners to the cowboy trail - and tales. Paint Horse Journal, Media Watch, September 2000

November 4-7 DEAN SMITH CELEBRITY RODEO
Graham, Texas
This will be one of the highlights of my year. Dean Smith is once again assembling the largest group of westerners in the world for this great benefit rodeo and show. Proceeds benefit the John Wayne Cancer Institute. Every two years Dean puts this event on and folks jam the little town of Graham to visit and see their friends of the Western movies, TV, radio and the sports world. I am flattered and excited about being able to rub shoulders with Dean, Larry Mahan, Diamond Farnsworth and a ton of my Cowboy heroes.
